Research Fellow
Dr. Jingyu Wang

Jingyu is a man of nature. At work, he is passionate about seeing subcellular structure or live neurons in all kinds of life forms under novel microscopes he builds. At home, he enjoys working alone in his overgrown garden during the day and then turning those home grown into strange flavour food.

Research Fellow
Dr. Zimo Zhao

Zimo focuses on liquid crystal technologies as well as their applications in vectorial optics fields for polarization manipulation. Outside the lab, he also developed some other interesting skills. He is good at origami and has a strong craftsmanship. He is also a foodie and a good cook, so he likes to travel to different countries for gourmet food and cook at home for nice dishes.

"In my spare time, usually I will go for sports such as tennis, squash, basketball as well as the gym session. And I also enjoy doing aerobic exercise such as pubbing and clubbing :)"

DPhil students
Xuke Qiu

Xuke focuses on utilizing printing technology to create liquid crystal droplets and exploring their unique properties, also leveraging these liquid crystals for full vectorial optical field sensing.

" When I’m not in the lab, I’m all about striking that perfect work-life balance. I firmly believe that all work and no play makes for a dull day! So, if you're ever up for a gym session to lift some weights, or down for a gaming marathon, count me in. Looking forward to making great memories and groundbreaking discoveries together! "

Ruofu Liu

My main research interests are Vortex Beams, Liquid Crystal Lasers, and combining Orbital Angular Momentum with Optical Skyrmion to realize advanced structured light. I am looking forward to all kinds of communication opportunities.

In my daily life, I like to listen to R&B, play football, and take photographs. Other than that, I really like First Person Shooter games and play them pretty well.

Master students
An Wang (Lou)

"My main research focus is in the use of polarisation in optical communication/computing systems. My current work is centered around the propagation of optical Skyrmions through waveguides and the encoding of information into the topological structure of polarisation fields. Outside of photonics, I am also interested in music, the theory of characteristic classes, and deep-sea fish."

Master students
Tade Marozsak

"I'm currently undertaking histopathological research employing polarization microscopy and machine learning to detect malignant lesions. Previously I was working on projects related to optical Skyrmions. Thrilled by my research experiences in photonics, in the future I would like to contribute to this domain at the doctoral level.

Beyond my commitments, I do some volunteering and serve as the college ice hockey captain. I find enjoyment in hiking, playing the piano and reading influential periodicals to stay informed about global affairs."

Master students
Yuxi Cai (Max)

"Hello world, I am Yuxi Cai. My research interest focuses on speckle reduction in vectorial imaging, which has potential in laser vectorial imaging and next generation endoscope. Potential cooperation opportunities and comments on my research are welcome.

In my spare time, I enjoy running and diving. To me, life is akin to an uncharted wilderness, full of adventures and opportunities. "

Master students
Conor McMahon

I'm a 4th year undergraduate, and as my project I am investigating the effect of polarization on coupling in laser written photonic circuits. Alongside this I study electronics, communications, machine vision and mathematical modelling.

Aside from my degree, I coach the St. Anne's College rowing team and enjoy running and playing music. When I'm not doing those, you can find me in any of the pubs around Oxford!

Summer Intern
Xin Xie

"I’m third year student majored in theoretical physics in UCL. I plan to study in quantum science in the future. I am so lucky to be supported and embraced by this awesome team.

I love wonderful things, such as logic, galaxy, art show, drama, pilates, dancing, nice tea and dessert and a fantastic meal.

In a word, from science to art. I'm most interested in quantum science for it is mysterious, especially in the inherent mechanism behind the laws of quantum change. Wish I can explore more incredible theories in this field with full of my energy."

Summer Intern
Xiaoyi Shang

I am a second-year student interested in polarisation sensing and imaging for biomedical applications and information analysis and I will be undertaking a summer internship at VOP.
